Celebrated in “The Times”

Elda will have a new home in just a few months!

One of the great things about living in downtown Biddeford-Saco is that slowly but surely, one step at a time, success builds upon success. Whether you rent an apartment on Saco Island or have an office in Building 1 or Building 2, the renaissance of these two two downtowns continues to move forward. In case you missed this article in The New York Times a year and a half ago, we thought you might enjoy reading “In Small-Town Maine, a Restaurant Both Reverent and Innovative,” and article by Charlie Friedmann. He was effusive in his praise of Elda, writing, “When I first discovered Elda in off-the-summer-tourist-trail Biddeford, Me., I was surprised. It seemed like a restaurant that belonged on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.”

Recently we all got the news that Elda’s chef/owner Bowman Brown has leased space in the Pepperell Mill Campus in Biddeford. Brown will relocate his restaurant to a building closer to Saco Island, on Main Street opposite from Lorne Wine. He’ll be on the 2nd floor, with a bakery and cafe at street level. Reportedly, there are also long term plans to open a second restaurant with a different concept on the 3rd floor next winter. Construction is now underway, and Brown hopes to open the 48-seat Elda 2.0 in early June.

Living downtown keeps getting better and better!
